It's Kirsty's 5 things for a Friday!
Friday, 23 July 2021
- Gala day is nearly here, and I have been busy helping out, when I can, getting Wildside ready for the big event. The bunting is up, boxes and prizes are sorted, hundreds of post-it notes are waiting for your suggestions and the playlist for the Kids Disco has finally been finalised. Panic over as the artificial grass I had ordered for the marquee flooring has arrived at the last minute, so will now be in place for Saturday. At home we have been meticulously manicuring our miniature garden, keeping out fingers and toes crossed that we have a prize worthy entry for the big competition day. Jillian, Caroline, Karla and Mark have all done a fantastic job at organising the centre and completing the countless little ‘jobs’ that need done in order to make the day safe and a success, so a huge shout out to you and a big thank you! Can’t wait to see you all there tomorrow for a burger, a boogie and a blether.
- It’s only July but we have been thinking ahead to our up-coming AGM towards the end of the year, finalising a date and beginning to prepare the paperwork. We should have a number of vacancies for future Directors, so if you think this is something you might be interested in then please get in touch to find out more, or speak to one of our current Directors on the SFCT stand at the Gala day. Next year should be even more exciting as we will have the final draft of the Community Action Plan to work with, alongside our existing Legacy projects. Nick Wright will be holding a workshop at our Gala day and this is a great chance to see the draft plan that includes the community’s priorities and ambitions for the future. If there is something you see in the plan that you are passionate about, have skills you could offer or time to get involved please leave your details with Nick or a Director. You can now view the draft plan here.
- It’s back to business with grant applications, after a quiet lockdown year. The Directors have been back at it and busy assessing grants from a number of our community groups, students and sporting champions. Whilst there is always paperwork and emails to be done, it’s a great part of being a Director and gives you an overview of all our fantastic volunteer groups and initiatives within our small community. After a hard year for us all, it has been great to see lots of groups getting back up and running, folk are socialising together again and the Wildside Centre is being regularly used as a community space – long may it continue!
- Next week I’m volunteering at a nature play holiday club for kids, at a secret woodland location in Aviemore (ssshhh!). I’m hoping to get inspired, pinch ideas and make connections with like-minded people. I’m really looking forward to having some adventurous fun, building dens, climbing trees and cooking on campfires but mostly I’m looking forward to switching off my phone, not checking my emails and enjoying being outside playing all day - if you're looking for me, I’ll be hiding in the woods!
- Happy Friday, enjoy the sun while it lasts and have a great weekend!
