Caroline Tucker – Project Co-ordinator

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m Caroline, and I am the Project Co-ordinator for the Trust. I’ve been in the role a little over 2 years now, and it is great to see the positive changes in the area over this time. I live ‘along the road’ in Strathnairn, but have had connections with Stratherrick & Foyers since I was a pupil at Stratherrick primary in the 80’s.

I am very passionate about community development, and have been involved in a number of projects in my own community, including the redevelopment of the playpark at Farr and the Strathnairn community growers group & children’s garden project.

What does life as the Project Co-ordinator for SFCT involve?

It is an extremely varied job – every day is different. I report into Tony, Trust Manager, and take direction from both him and the board. I am currently working on the Errogie Church project, a fantastic opportunity to bring an old building back to life to become focal point for the community again.

I also work on smaller projects too; I am currently helping develop the landscape around the Wildside centre, and as part of that I am working on installing a small play area in the grounds.

Events are also within my remit – it is an excellent opportunity for me to get to know the community groups within the area and work with them to help promote what they do, whether it is helping the Stratherrick Clay Target club drum up raffle prizes, working with the toddler group and school parent councils with their family-friendly activities or liaising with LNRC in promoting an understanding of the importance of rural skills and land management within our community. We have a wide-ranging volunteer base within the community, both as members of community groups and also as individuals, and it is working with these folk that makes my job so enjoyable.

What’s next on your list?

Errogie Church will remain a large part of my role. With phase 1 complete and phase 2 in planning, we are hoping to work with Stratherrick primary school, the South Loch Ness Heritage Group, other community groups and also our Fundraisers, on some smaller projects within the building, which will help shape how the building will be used.

Foyers Bay is also coming to fruition, so I am expecting to have more hands-on involvement in this project too.

As part of the communications team, the Autumn magazine is just around the corner, so work will begin soon on collating and editing content for that. Keep an eye out for the copy deadline in all the usual places over the coming weeks!

Although it is still the summer holidays, we will also be turning our attention to Winter Wonderland soon too.

What personal interests do you have that cross over with your work for the Trust?

As a Mum of school-aged children, it is important to me that there are opportunities in our rural communities for young people, whether it is through activities, employment or improved facilities. I am also passionate about supporting local producers – we are amazingly lucky to have such a variety of local produce on our doorstep, from eggs and locally grown vegetables all the way through to pork & beef from local crofts and game off the hills.

Caroline's working hours are 9-5 Monday to Thursday.
